Athousand years of evolution is a better teacher than a hundred years of learning
All organisms in nature communicate with a universal unspoken language called ‘Semiochemicals’
Using this to our advantage, we have developed a flourishing field of Chemical Ecology. This has been used successfully for Integrated Pest Management.
basics
What is Chemical Ecology?
Chemical Ecology
Chemical ecology is the study of organisms interacting through volatile chemicals. These message bearing volatile signals are known as semiochemicals. There are various distinctions within semiochemicals like pheromones, kairomones, synomones and allomones. Semiochemicals can be used to manipulate behaviour both of pests and beneficial insects.
Insects recognise the odour bouquet of their potential hosts via chemicals known as kairomones and non-hosts by allomones. Predatory insects recognise their prey kairomones and sometimes these are the pheromones themselves for the prey. So it is easily possible there are multiple designations of a single semiochemical, depending upon the perspective.
Kairomones
A kairomone is a semiochemical, emitted by an organism, which mediates interspecific interactions in a way that benefits an individual of another species which receives it and harms the emitter. This "eavesdropping" is often disadvantageous to the producer (though other benefits of producing the substance may outweigh this cost, hence its persistence over evolutionary time).
The kairomone improves the fitness of the recipient and in this respect differs from an allomone (which is the opposite: it benefits the producer and harms the receiver) and a synomone (which benefits both parties).
Parapheromones
A semiochemical that mimic the effects of a pheromone and are used in monitoring insects by luring them to traps. These chemicals are not produced essentially by the opposite sex and is rather produced by other organisms that try taking advantage of the responding species.
Pheromones
A pheromone is a chemical factor that triggers a social response in members of the same species. Pheromones are chemicals capable of acting like hormones outside the body of the secreting individual, to impact the behaviour of the receiving individuals. There are alarm pheromones, food trail pheromones, sex pheromones, and many others that affect behaviour or physiology.
Pheromones are used from basic unicellular prokaryotes to complex multicellular eukaryotes. Their use among insects has been particularly well documented. In addition, some vertebrates, plants and ciliates communicate by using pheromones.
Bioorgo
Chemically Ecological Products
A Brand ofKempmann Bioorganics
The Pioneer in production and retailing of premium field-inputs for urban gardening, farming and agriculture
Bioorgo’s products are ecologically friendly, sustainable and technologically-sophisticated. Bioorgo provides its diverse customers with reliable, year-round, supply of pest management solutions with the highest standards of safety and environmental sustainability. We believe and promote ecological pest management system that promotes and enhances biodiversity, biological cycles and biological activity.
We believe in minimal use of inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony. We have understood the agro-ecology through in-depth research. This has led us to device methods, technologies and products that support sustained farming.
Pest Management Solutions
Pest management is a crucial part of successful farming. The world population is on a raise and so is our need for food. But is our food clean? Is our food free from pesticides? Not at all! We at Bioorgo have developed “no spray” systems that use pheromones, para-pheromones and kairomones and trapping system to control agriculture pests.
We are committed to develop better pest management solutions where intervention is least required. These systems will surly aid farmers increase their income and help keep our planet cleaner.
Research
We at Bioorgo believe in providing farmers with the best quality products, technology and solutions through advanced research. We have identified two field of research that is very crucial to the health of the planet.
